Who are we?
Do you need help
but dont know where to turn?
My name is Briony and I'm the Mental Health Worker for KingsCare.
We aim to prevent suicide in our community by supporting those struggling with their mental health and signposting to appropriate services. If you, or someone you know needs a helping hand, please get in touch.
This project is in memory of Kyle Deakin.
You do not need to have a mental health diagnosis.
How can #DoitforDeaks help me?
We firmly believe that things can always get better, but often stress, depression or anxiety can make it hard to think clearly and find solutions. We are here to help you find the right support to help you get back on your feet. If you reach out to us we will spend time getting to know you and let you know what support is available to you and how to access it. Sometimes just talking it through can really help and you can come back to us for further chats whenever you need to. We can refer, and fund counselling or other activities that support wellbeing if appropriate.
Do I have to be suicidal?
Not at all! In fact we would urge anyone struggling with low mood and/or anxiety to reach out to us. Our aim is to prevent suicide, and the earlier you reach out, the better.
Who is this service for?
Anyone aged 18 or older can self-refer to us. We particularly welcome contact from young men.
Is it confidential?
We have a strict confidentiality policy which means that any conversations you have will not be discussed outside of our small team. We would only break this policy in exceptional circumstances, eg yours or another's life is in immediate danger.
How is Covid-19 affecting the service you offer?
We are pleased to say that we are now able to meet people face to face! We aim to keep you, and ourselves as safe as possible from COVID. We are also happy to talk on the phone, via video link such as Zoom, or by text/ email. Whatever feels easiest for you!
When are you available for support?
We try to be as flexible as possible but generally we would aim to make an appointment to speak to you within normal working hours. As a small team we are not able to offer 24/7 support. If you feel you need urgent support or cannot stop yourself from acting on your suicidal thoughts, tell a loved one immediately, call 999 or contact the First Response Service on 0808 196 8708.
