KingsCare Wellbeing Program

Are you 50+ with one or two (or more) long term health conditions? Are you spending more time than you want at the doctors?

We are partners with the other four patient support groups in South Devon (The Wellbeing Partnership) in running a Wellbeing Programme.

We have 3 Wellbeing Coordinators whose role is to spend time with patients who would benefit from some support to think about what matters to them and how they can best make those little differences in their lives that make such a big difference to their ability to enjoy life.

Referrals made through a Health Professional.

Time to Talk

On the 1st Monday of each month, Kingsteignton Medical Practice will have listening volunteers available to patients who would benefit from talking to someone. Talking to someone who will not judge you or tell you what to do can be helpful. Many people report feeling much better just by sharing their thoughts and feelings.

All volunteers are trained and provided by the Samaritans. This service is entirely confidential. No record of your visit will be made by the surgery, and nothing you talk about will be shared outside the room.

You can make an appointment in the usual way or just drop in between 2-5pm.

We know it can be hard to ask for this sort of service at reception so just ask for an appointment with 'Sam' and the receptionist will point you in the right direction.

Buckland Patient Support Group

Our surgery support group was formed on 23rd August 2017 to promote the health and wellbeing of our patients by addressing their non-medical needs alongside the Buckland Surgery staff. This could be from helping someone to find an activity where they can meet other people to combat loneliness or depression or getting someone more active in a gentle way, as with our Slow Exercise groups, or to getting them advice about practical things.

Buckland support Coffee Morning; crafts, games and laughs.

H.I.T.S. Food Bank (Teignbridge-wide)

Homeless in Teignbridge Support (H.I.T.S) works with homeless people and those in crisis and need in our community, throughout Teignbridge and in the more rural areas.

There are three main types of packs we distribute:

  • Food pack

  • Household crisis pack

  • Toiletry pack.

In times of crisis and need, we can also provide baby packs, pet packs, and moving-in packs.

From 1 April 2016 we have been running the HITS Support (HITSS) Scheme, providing a small amount of credit on electric and gas meters in an emergency, emergency clothing and necessary travel for those in absolute need. Necessary travel might include a case when it is imperative that a client has to attend an important meeting, eg with Job Centre Plus or the Newton Abbot Citizens Advice Bureau.
